ANSI RSC-EMEA Meets with Saudi Standards Organization

Washington, DC, Nov 09, 2010

Members of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Regional Standing Committee (RSC)-Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) met with leaders from the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) on October 22 for an open discussion and information exchange on standards-related issues.

SASO representatives included Mr. Nabil Molla, SASO governor, and Abdulmohsin M. AL-Yousef, director general of SASO’s quality control department. The meeting was hosted at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in Washington, DC.

Mr. Molla offered a presentation on SASO’s role in Saudi Arabia, its history and structure, and the use of the Saudi Quality Mark. Highlighting ongoing inter-regional cooperation, Mr. Molla noted that SASO has adopted approximately 1,000 standards and codes from U.S.-based standards developing organizations and government agencies. ANSI members can access the SASO presentation via the ANSI Member Library (see instructions below).

During the SASO leaders' visit, ANSI also coordinated meetings with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the International Trade Administration (ITA), and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

SASO was established in 1972 as an independent governmental body responsible for all standardization activities, under the name of Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. SASO’s name was changed to Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization in 2009.

RSC-EMEA is one of three Regional Standing Committees coordinated by ANSI’s International Policy Committee to broaden the Institute’s participation in key regional activities around the world.
