SASO representatives included Mr. Nabil Molla, SASO governor, and Abdulmohsin M. AL-Yousef, director general of SASO's quality control department. The meeting was hosted at the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in Washington, DC.
Mr. Molla offered a presentation on SASO's role in Saudi Arabia, its history and structure, and the use of the Saudi Quality Mark. Highlighting ongoing inter-regional cooperation, Mr. Molla noted that SASO has adopted approximately 1,000 standards and codes from U.S.-based standards developing organizations and government agencies. During the SASO leaders' visit, ANSI also coordinated meetings with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the International Trade Administration (ITA), and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
SASO was established in 1972 as an independent governmental body responsible for all standardization activities, under the name of Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. SASO's name was changed to Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization in 2009.
