The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) organizational member, has announced the hiring of Monique Hanis as chief operating officer (COO) and vice president of marketing and communications. In her new role, Ms. Hanis will head up efforts to bolster SFI's brand recognition, promote the organization's responsible sourcing and sustainable forestry programs, along with financial and administrative responsibilities.

Ms. Hanis previously served as the director of communications for the Solar Energy Industries Association, where she was responsible for regular press operations, management of the industry's PR committee, and other duties. She has also held marketing positions with the Independent Community Bankers Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association. Ms. Hanis received a bachelor's degree in economics and French from New Jersey's Rutgers University and earned her masters in international management from Arizona's Thunderbird School of Global Management.

SFI is a nonprofit organization overseeing international programs on sustainable forestry and the responsible sourcing of wood products. Across North America, more than 200 million acres are certified to the SFI forest management standard.

ANSI-accredited standards developer and organizational member the Portland Cement Association (PCA) has hired Gregory M. Scott as its president and CEO. As part of his duties, Mr. Scott will oversee the effective operation of the association and will represent PCA and its member organizations before Congress and agencies overseen by the U.S. government's executive branch.

Prior to joining PCA, Mr. Scott was the executive vice president and general counsel for the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association (NPRA), where he worked to expand that organization's advocacy on public policy–related issues. He also has served as vice president at National Strategies Inc. and as a partner in Kelley Drye Collier Shannon. Mr. Scott earned a bachelor of arts from Colorado College and a law degree from American University in Washington, DC.

PCA, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, represents cement companies in both the U.S. and Canada. On behalf of its members, PCA carries out market development, public affairs, and educational work, while also supporting research into cement-related subject areas.
