INCITS Seeks Participants for New U.S. TAGs on IT Governance and the Internet of Things

2/11/2013

The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer (ASD), has announced the creation of two new groups to serve as U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) to Working Groups (WGs) associated with International Organization for Standardization / International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Information Technology. One of the new groups, INCITS Study Group on Internet of Things (IoT), operates as the U.S. TAG to JTC 1's Special WG (SWG) 5, Internet of Things, which was formed in November 2012 [see related story]. The other new group, INCITS GIT1 - Governance of IT, serves as the U.S. TAG to JTC 1 WG 8, Governance of IT.

Internet of Things
The INCITS Study Group on IoT will work to identify standardization gaps and market requirements related to IoT, while also promote cooperation in this area across different economic sectors. Through its activities, the study group will seek to encourage the establishment and use of common U.S. and international IoT standards by stakeholders, including industry groups and government agencies.

The study group will hold its first meeting at the headquarters of the Information Technology Council (ITI), 1101 K Street, NW, Suite 610, in Washington, DC, at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. During the meeting, which comes in advance of global talks on the subject scheduled to take place in Berlin on March 6, 2013, U.S. delegates to the Berlin meeting will be chosen and work will be carried out to develop the official U.S. positions for the upcoming international discussions.

To take part in the February 27 meeting, please contact Barbara Bennett at [email protected].

Governance of IT
INCITS GIT1 will work to establish a functional framework for IT governance and will focus on essential, related standards, including documents on digital forensics, corporate governance, and software management. The group will also aid in the development of JTC 1 standard on IT governance, including: ISO/IEC WDTS 38501, Corporate Governance of IT Implementation Guide; ISO/IEC CD 30121, System and software engineering -- Information technology -- Governance of digital forensic risk framework; and ISO/IEC DTR 38502, Information technology -- Governance of IT -- Framework and model.

INCITS GIT1 will hold its first meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2013. For meeting location or to take part in this event, please contact Deborah Spittle at [email protected].
