ANSI Announces Agenda for 2009 Legal Issues Forum

New York, Sep 02, 2009

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will hold its annual Legal Issues Forum on October 6 during the World Standards Week 2009 series of events.

This year’s forum will focus on standards for safety and sustainability through two panels. The first panel, Examining the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), will kick off the forum with an introduction by Scott Cooper, ANSI vice president of government relations. Attendees will then hear from three panelists:

  • Nancy A. Nord, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission: Implementing the CPSIA: The CPSC’s Perspective
  • Jameson B. Carroll of King & Spalding LLP: Laying the Groundwork: What is the CPSIA?
  • Donald L. Mays, Consumers Union/Consumer Reports: CPSIA and the Consumer’s Perspective

Following a brief break, attendees will reconvene for the forum’s second panel, Eco-labeling: Helping to Shape the Sustainable Marketplace. Mary C. McKiel, Ph.D., of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will provide introductory remarks. Three speakers will then share their thoughts on eco-labeling with attendees:

  • Robert S. Kaye, Bureau of Consumer Protection, Federal Trade Commission: The FTC Green Guides
  • Jill Wasserman, King & Spalding LLP: The Legal Landscape
  • Urvashi Rangan, Consumers Union: The Problem of Greenwashing

The 2009 Legal Issues Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. For the forum agenda, click here.
