SES Announces Webinar on Strategic Value of Standards Education
ANSI member and accredited standards developer SES - The Society for Standards Professionals will hold a webinar examining standards education and its strategic value on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. The event will include an overview of the work carried out by the Center for Global Standards Analysis between 1999 and 2010, as well as information about a course on strategic standardization offered by the graduate program for engineering management at Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, DC.

The webinar will be led by the founder and former chairman of the Center for Global Standards Analysis, Donald E. Purcell, who also oversees the strategic standardization course at CUA. Participants are asked to review material related to standards education on www.strategicstandards.com, which includes lectures, research papers, and other documents used in the CUA strategic standards course.

The webinar is offered free of charge to all current SES members and costs $50 for non-members. Under a reciprocal agreement between the two organizations, ANSI full member technical contacts are considered SES members and can take part in the webinar at no cost. ICC and SRCC Issues Call for Participation on Solar Water Heating Standards
The International Code Council (ICC), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, in conjunction with the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation, has issued a call for participation in a standards development committee tasked with developing new joint standards for solar thermal collectors and solar water heating systems.

The two projects - ICC 900/SRCC 300, Minimum Standards for Solar Water Heating Systems, and ICC 901/SRCC 100, Minimum Standards for Solar Thermal Collectors - were initiated in June 2012 with the submission to ANSI of a Project Initiation Notification System (PINS). The standards are based in part on SCRCC's influential Standard 100 and Standard 300, which have been widely cited in local, state, and federal laws and codes, as well as in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s ENERGY STAR program. The ICC and SRCC seek to have the new joint standards become American National Standards (ANS).

To find out more about the standards development committee, or to download committee member application forms, click here. All applications must be received by Friday, May 17, 2013. The current versions of SRCC Standard 100 and Standard 300 are available here.

SDI Releases Video on Manufacturing and Testing of Fire-Rated Doors
ANSI organizational member and accredited standards developer the Steel Door Institute (SDI) has officially released a free online video providing information about the manufacturing and testing of fire-rated hollow metal doors. The video was filmed at a door manufacturing facility operated by SDI member Door Components Inc. and hosted by Bob Briggs Jr., Door Component's president.

The video provides information about the different types of fire rated hollow doors, including honeycomb core doors, polystyrene core doors, and steel stiffened core doors. Viewers are also shown footage of the doors' assembly and fire-testing, where hollow metal doors are subjected to 1500-1900 degree flames for periods as long as three hours.

IS&T Approved as ANSI Accredited Standards Developer
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has approved ANSI organizational member the Society for Imaging Science & Technology (IS&T) as an ANSI accredited standards developer under its proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on IS&T-sponsored ANS, effective April 30, 2013. For additional information, please contact Ann McCarthy, IS&T's standards coordinator, at [email protected] or 703-642-9090.

Approval of U.S. TAG Accreditation for ISO Carbon Dioxide Capture Technical Committee
The ANSI ExSC has formally approved the accreditation of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 265, Carbon dioxide capture, transportation and geological storage, with CSA Standards serving as TAG Administrator. For additional information, please contact Peter Ehlers, the CSA Group's program manager for alternative energy vehicles, by email at [email protected], or by calling 216-524-4990.

U.S. TAG to ISO TC 207 Submits Revisions to Operating Procedures
The U.S. TAG to ISO TC 207, Environmental Management, has submitted revisions to its currently accredited operating procedures on file. As the revisions appear to be substantive in nature, the reaccreditation process is initiated. The TAG Administrator to ISO TC 207 is ASQ, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.

To obtain a copy of the TAG's revised procedures or offer comments, please contact Jennifer Admussen, ASQ's standards manager, by email at [email protected], or by calling 1-800-248-1946, extension 7736.
