1/08/2010

ANSI invites stakeholders to join new U.S. TAG

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has announced plans for a new standard on sustainable management of events. Interested stakeholders are invited to participate in a U.S. Technical Advisory group (TAG) that will be formed on the topic.

Get Involved

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is currently reaching out to interested parties to see if there is interest in forming a U.S. TAG to PC 250. All interested participants are invited contact Rachel Howenstine, ANSI program administrator, ISO Outreach and Enhanced Services (212.642.4938; [email protected]).

The standard, ISO 20121, will be produced by a new ISO project committee, ISO/PC 250, Sustainability in event management. It will guide event planners, venues, and other stakeholders in improving and maintaining sustainability measures for a number of common events and gatherings.

The document will require identification of key sustainability issues such as venue selection, operating procedures, supply chain management, procurement, communications, and transport through a management systems approach. All types of events, including exhibitions, sporting competitions, concerts, and other gatherings, will be covered by the standard.

Approximately 30 countries are currently involved in PC 250. Currently, the U.S. is observing the work and will participate if there is sufficient interest. The standard is expected to be finalized in 2012 in time for the London Olympics.
