ASIS Announces Plans for Supplement to Workplace Violence Prevention Standard
ASIS International, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has announced that it will develop a supplement to its existing standard on workplace violence prevention and intervention.
ASIS/SHRM WVP.1-2011, Workplace Violence Prevention and Intervention, gives an overview of policies, processes, and protocols for organizations to follow that can help them identify and prevent threatening behavior. The planned supplement will provide guidance for responding to an active assailant or shooter event.
"Workplace violence is one of the most significant security and personnel safety challenges facing organizations today," said Gene Ferraro, chair of the standard's technical committee and chief executive, Forensic Pathways, Inc. "Of the many facets of workplace violence, active assailant is the most concerning, because it is the deadliest. Globally, in both the public and private sector, security professionals are searching for solutions. This standard will provide much needed direction and guidance."

AIAG White Paper Guides Auto Industry in Addressing Global Water Challenges
The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), an ANSI member, recently released a white paper on water use by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The paper is based on a comprehensive North American benchmarking survey conducted by AIAG with six OEMs in 2015 and 2016. Results indicated the leading practices in targets, water responsibilities, assessments, metering, water reduction efforts, alternative water sources, paint process water, and sustainability. As the automotive industry and its supply chain are water-intensive, OEMs are encouraged to implement these leading practices in their facilities, and to encourage suppliers to further reduce water consumption.

PMMI Names Global Packaging Trends
PMMI, the Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, published a news item outlining trends in global packaging for 2017. The article is based off of the 2017 Global Packaging Trends report, produced by Euromonitor and sponsored by PMMI and other packaging companies.
Trends include:
Clear and clean labels: Consumers want to understand the ingredients in their food labels, and believe that products with recognizable ingredients are healthier.
Sustainable packaging: Sustainability is in high demand, with customers seeking less packaging waste. Rising material costs are also leading to more demand for recycled materials.
Customization and increased premiumization: Consumers are interested in products that are locally sourced, high quality, and authentic, and they're willing to pay for it. This has led to the need for more flexible equipment that accommodates shorter runs and frequent changeovers.

AmericanHort Offers Brochure on Bee-Friendly Trees and Shrubs
AmericanHort, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has published a list of bee-friendly plants through the Horticultural Research Institute, its research foundation.
"Plants Bees Like Best" lists plants that are regularly visited by bees, allowing home gardeners to support the health and habitats of these critically important pollinators. Readers will learn the rating and month of bloom for numerous trees and shrubs, as well as specific plants to attract honeybees or bumblebees. The document also includes a list of trees and shrubs that attract relatively few bees.
