World Accreditation Day Focuses on "A Global Tool to Support Public Policy"

6/13/2016

The recent celebration of World Accreditation Day—an initiative of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperative (ILAC) —highlighted the various ways in which accreditation is a global tool to support public policy. Every year on June 9, IAF and ILAC invite the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the other national representatives from around the world to mark the occasion and honor the important role that accreditation plays in the global standards and conformity assessment community.

As highlighted in the official World Accreditation Day video, accreditation is a proven tool that supports the delivery of improved regulatory framework and good governance, market-effective procurement, and public confidence. The video highlights a number of activities supported by accreditation such as testing and certification that are regularly being utilized by government departments across the world.

ANSI has a wide range of accreditation programs providing assurance that standards, goods, and services meet essential requirements throughout the global supply chain - engendering consumer trust and fostering competitiveness. Increasingly, procurement authorities, government agencies, and program/scheme owners are specifying accreditation in order to demonstrate the technical competence and impartiality of conformance services and processes. These assessments enhance confidence between buyers and sellers as they mitigate risk.
