New York, Oct 24, 2005

At the close of the public review period for the United States Standards Strategy (USSS), the USSS Committee reviewed and discussed the input received and considered these contributions in the development of the revised document. A new draft version of the Strategy and a complementary Frequently Asked Questions document are now available for public viewing on ANSI online ( The USSS Committee has recommended that the draft be submitted to the ANSI Board of Directors for final approval on December 8, 2005. These documents are made available for information and reference only.

During the public review process numerous comments were received from a large and diverse group of constituents representing stakeholders in government, industry, standards developing organizations, consortia, consumer groups, and academia. The comments submitted have helped to shape the Strategy into a document that can be used by all U.S. stakeholders to advance trade issues in the global marketplace, enhance consumer health and safety, respond to critical national and global priorities, and, as appropriate, advance U.S. viewpoints in the regional and international arena.

"The Committee believes that the finalized Strategy will be a document that represents the vision of a broad cross-section of standards stakeholders and that reflects the diversity of the U.S. standards system," said USSS Committee chairman S. Joe Bhatia.
