People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer ASQ has announced that Paul Borawski, the organization's longtime CEO, will retire from his position in May 2014. ASQ's Executive Council is expected to retain an external search firm as part of its efforts to find a replacement for Mr. Borawski.

Mr. Borawski rose from the position of director of technical activities to become the organization's executive director, chief strategic officer, and finally CEO over the course of his 27 years with ASQ. During his tenure as CEO, ASQ has grown into an organization with an increasingly international reach, a transition that has included the opening of new foreign offices in Mexico, India, China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to complement ASQ's world headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr. Borawski was named one of the most influential individuals in quality by Quality Digest magazine in 2005 and was the 2006 recipient of the European Organization for Quality's Georges Borel medal.

ASQ is a global organization focused on ongoing efforts to advance quality-improvement techniques and quality assessment in a wide range of fields and endeavors. The organization represents millions of individual and organizational members in 150 nations around the world. ASQ has partnered with ANSI to oversee the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board, which provides accreditation services under the ACLASS, FQS, and ANAB brands.

ANSI member and accredited standards developer the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has selected Tom Kiernan as its next CEO. In his new role, Mr. Kiernan will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the association's many activities and initiatives.

Prior to joining AWEA, Mr. Kiernan served as the president of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), where he oversaw significant growth in the NPCA's membership base and net assets during his tenure. He previously held the position of president of the Audubon Society of New Hampshire and worked in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Office of Air and Radiation and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Mr. Kiernan received his bachelor of arts degree in environmental computer modeling from New Hampshire's Dartmouth College and his MBA from California's Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

AWEA is a national trade association representing the interests of wind power developers, equipment suppliers and manufacturers, electrical utilities, and other groups involved in the wind energy industry. The association, which has more than 1,300 members, works to promote the expansion of wind energy in countries around the world.
