People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.
The Simon Institute, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced Alan Bigger as its new executive director. Mr. Bigger replaced Paul Condie, who was the executive director for 10 years and led the Institute in becoming an ANSI accredited standards developer.
Prior to assuming this position, Mr. Bigger was the Simon Institute's director of knowledge management. Mr. Bigger has held leadership positions in numerous organizations, serving as director of building services for The University of Notre Dame and director of facilities for Earlham College. He is active in industry organizations, and is a past-president of the Midwest Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers (MAPPA). Mr. Bigger has published over 400 articles in industry trade magazines such as Maintenance Executive, Facilities Manager, Sanitary Maintenance, ISSA Today, and more. He authored "The Frugal Housekeeper" articles for Executive Housekeeping, with over 200 pieces in that series alone.
The Simon Institute also announced that Kristie McNesaly, MD, has joined the organization's standards and certification team as chief consultant for healthcare and safety for custodial occupations. In this role, she will specialize in the development of ANSI standards and certification related to healthcare and safety issues in housekeeping, custodial, and janitorial occupations.
Dr. McNealy's background is in healthcare quality improvement and project consulting. She serves as a senior staff associate at Econometrica, Inc., where she is the project manager on a Measure and Instrument Development and Support (MIDS) contract. She is also a qualitative researcher on the evaluation of community care-based transition programs (CCTP) for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Additionally, Dr. McNealy is a senior researcher at the Sundance Research Institute in Sundance, WY, where she is studying the impact of preconception counseling on gestational diabetes in American Indian communities.
The Portland Cement Association (PCA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Holly Arthur its vice president of communications. In this role, Ms. Arthur will contribute significantly to the association's government affairs and market development activities with a comprehensive vision for communications.
Ms. Arthur was previously with Milton Public Relations, her own firm, which worked with both association and corporate clients. She has also held positions with the Association of American Railroads, Ogilvy Public Relations, and the city of Chicago.
"Holly's communications experience is a critical asset as we continue to advance the cement industry," said James G. Toscas, PCA president and CEO. "She will be a leader in guiding our message and expanding the voice of our members across the United States."
