The International Code Council (ICC), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute, has announced several changes and additions to its leadership team.
ICC and the International Accreditation Service (IAS), a nonprofit educational subsidiary of ICC, have announced that Raj Nathan is the new IAS president. Mr. Nathan will replace C.P. "Chuck" Ramani, who is retiring after 44 years in global conformity assessment and construction code development.
Mr. Nathan has been with IAS since 2002, most recently serving as senior vice president. In the course of his work with IAS, Mr. Nathan led a major restructuring of the organization's operations to better meet clients' needs. He also directed a multi-phased software development to automate internal processes, led an enhanced digital marketing strategy, and spearheaded the organization's global business services. He holds an MS in Industrial Engineering and Management Systems from the University of Nebraska.
"On behalf of the IAS Board, I'm excited to welcome Raj as the new IAS President," said IAS Board of Directors chair James G. Toscas. "Raj has been a dedicated member of the IAS team and an important factor in the remarkable growth of the organization for many years, and we all look forward to working with him closely during this transition and beyond."
ICC has also recently named Neil Burning as its new vice president of government relations technical resources. Mr. Burning will develop and direct programs and resources that support the adoption of the International Codes (I-Codes), a coordinated set of building codes widely deployed in the United States.
With more than 30 years of technical expertise in codes and standards, Mr. Burning previously served as vice president of construction, codes, and standards for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), where he oversaw advocacy efforts dealing with residential construction codes and standards development, implementation, and enforcement. Prior to NAHB he was the manager of building plans examination and the permit application center in Clark County, Nevada, and a building official in Peoria, Arizona.
"The Code Council and our membership will greatly benefit from Neil's extensive knowledge of the I-Codes and the industry as we advocate for the adoption of modern, regularly updated, and cost-efficient codes and standards in jurisdictions across the U.S," said ICC CEO Dominic Sims, CBO.
ICC has also announced the addition of Michelle Britt as director of the energy program. Ms. Britt has over 15 years of experience in energy codes and building performance nationally and in the Pacific Islands. She was a partner with Britt/Makela Group, serving national, state, and local governments, industry, and nonprofits including ICC. Prior, she was with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as a senior research scientist.
