Registration Closes June 9 for ANSI’s Open Forum for Standards Developers

Standards developing organizations and consortia reps to gather in NYC June 20-21, 2006

New York, May 31, 2006

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages all stakeholders from standards developers, consortia and other forums, industry, government, consumers, and other groups to register for the ANSI Open Forum for Standards Developers to be held in New York City June 20-21, 2006. The deadline for registration is June 9, 2006.

The Forum begins Tuesday afternoon, June 20, with a panel discussion on the needs of standards customers from a variety of perspectives--industry, government and consumers. A second panel will present several case studies on the return on investment derived from external (e.g., third party) recognition of a standard. The last discussion of the day will review techniques for monitoring legislative and regulatory topics impacting the standards community.

The Forum continues on the morning of June 21 with a discussion of a potential "federated registry" of standards metadata to identify existing standards and ongoing development projects. The remainder of the morning will focus on harmonization and convergence issues via panel discussion, case studies and an extensive open dialogue on the benefits and challenges of harmonization efforts domestically and internationally.

ANSI will host a reception for Forum attendees on Tuesday evening in New York City's famous Grand Central Terminal.

"The event is intended to be a vehicle for the exchange of ideas and input between and among various types of standard setting organizations and for the identification of opportunities for communication, cooperation, and collaboration," said ANSI president and CEO S. Joe Bhatia.

Each participating organization is invited to bring a supply of printed materials for display and distribution on a literature table during the Forum.
