ECCMA to Host Conference on Data Cataloging and Protection

New York, Sep 13, 2006

On October 24-26, the Electronic Commerce Code Management Association (ECCMA) will host the sixth annual ECCMA International Cataloging Conference to highlight the importance of data protection and cataloging in supply chain management.

A member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), ECCMA developed and maintains the Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD), a metadata registry designed to support electronic commerce and other supply chain applications. The conference will examine the eOTD and other standards solutions as potential tools for businesses and other organizations. Representatives from industry, government, standards developing organizations and other stakeholders are invited to attend.

The event will be held in conjunction with the fiftieth meeting of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 184, subcommittee (SC) 4—the group charged with developing industrial data standards relating to automation systems and integration. A joint ECCMA-ISO session will explore the use of ISO data standards in various industry sectors and the challenges of long term data retention.

The conference will feature a panel discussion on the role of standardized metadata in supporting data integration across the supply chain, from design to disposal. The presentation will include an update on the cataloging projects of the North American Treaty Organization and the implementation of relevant standards by industry suppliers and buyers. A series of workshops led by recognized experts will address topics ranging from inventory rationalization to the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) and other automatic identification standards.

An exhibit hall will offer conference attendees the opportunity to explore the latest technology applications and service solutions available on the market. The wide array of exhibits will include tools for application integration and interoperability, cataloging, data cleansing, spend analysis. Interested organizations may register as an exhibitor through October 6.

Both the ECCMA conference and ISO meeting will be held at the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, Pennsylvania. An agenda for these events is now available.
