People on the Move

New York, Jan 30, 2009

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Peter J. O’Neil as the next executive director, effective April 2009.

He will succeed Steven H. Davis, who will depart AIHA after eleven years of service.

Mr. O’Neil joined AIHA in 2000 as director for marketing and member services, and was promoted in 2005 to assistant executive director. Having worked closely with Mr. Davis and the volunteer leadership, he has been involved with strategic planning and special project development and management.

Mr. O’Neil has a BA in international relations from Syracuse University.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has appointed Ilyse Schuman as managing director of the Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) - a division of NEMA that connects medical imaging equipment manufacturers, innovators, and product developers.

An expert on healthcare policy, she was the former minority staff director and chief counsel of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP). She has served on the HELP Committee since 2001 as counsel to the former chairman, Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY).

Prior to working for the Senate, Ms.Schuman was senior counsel at Navistar International Corporation, and formerly an associate at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom.

She graduated cum laude from Tufts University with a BA and master’s degree in political science.
