The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) member and accredited standards developer, recently announced the appointment of Kevin Cosgriff as its new president and CEO. Mr. Cosgriff will replace longtime NEMA president and CEO Evan Gaddis, who is retiring from his position.

Mr. Cosgriff previously worked as senior vice president of international business and government for Textron Systems Corporation. He joined Textron after retiring from the U.S. Navy, where he served as a vice admiral from 2007 until 2008. During his time in the Navy, Mr. Cosgriff served as the director of the White House Situation Room, director of systems and technical planning for the National Security Council, and director of warfare analysis and integration at U.S. Navy Headquarters, among other positions. He received his bachelor's degree in marine transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and earned a master's degree in strategic intelligence from the U.S. Naval War College.

NEMA is an association representing more than 400 member companies in the medical imaging and electrical equipment manufacturing sectors. The association was founded in 1926 and is based in Rosslyn, Virginia.

SPI - The Plastics Industry Trade Association, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, recently named Robert Helminiak as its new vice president of science and regulatory affairs. Mr. Helminiak will oversee SPI's relationships with government regulatory bodies and relevant standards developing organizations (SDOs), among other duties.

Prior to joining SPI, Mr. Helminiak worked as the director, regulatory affairs, at ANSI member the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), and as the director of government affairs and deputy general counsel at ANSI member and accredited standards developer the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), among other position. He received his bachelor of arts degree in English from Ohio's University of Dayton and his law degree from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law.

SPI, a nonprofit association founded in 1937, represents organizations employing almost 900,000 U.S. workers involved in the plastics industry. The association provides market research, legislative outreach, and other essential services to its members, while also assisting in the promotion of zero waste strategies for the plastics industry.
