People on the Move

9/04/2015
People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a member and audited designator of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced several additions to their public education division. Kelly Ransdell, Meredith Hawes, and Jeffrey Donahue have joined the association as public education specialists. They will work with state and local fire departments to support initiatives for fire safety education, with each specialist overseeing efforts in a specific region of the country.

Ms. Ransdell, who will be responsible for the New England and southern regions, has served for nearly 15 years as the deputy director of the North Carolina Department of Insurance - Office of the State Fire Marshal. She sits on numerous state and local committees for injury prevention, and has also served on the NFPA committee that provides technical assistance on national fire prevention standards.

Ms. Hawes is responsible for the mid-west and mid-Atlantic regions. She has experience in non-profit administration, corporate training, and public education, and has served as a fire and life safety public educator for the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department. She sits on the Aging and Disability Resource Collaborate of the Northwest Michigan Steering Committee and the Board of Governors for the National Cherry Festival, and is the coordinator for the Traverse Bay Area Hoarding Task Force.

Mr. Donahue, who will be responsible for the western region, has over 34 years of experience in fire service, most recently as division chief/fire marshal for the City of Reno Fire Department. As a board member of the International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA), he has worked closely with NFPA over the years.
