In order to serve the education and training needs of the standards and conformity assessment community, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is offering a weeklong program of courses at its New York office January 2004. The courses are designed to provide efficient and effective training solutions for everyone interested in participating in the standards and conformity assessment process.

Participants may choose a single one-day courses or opt for a combination of courses during the week. Discounts apply for ANSI members and for anyone registering for two or more courses.

  • For those who may need a standardization primer, an introductory course that is specifically targeted for new members of the standards and conformity assessment community will be held on Monday, January 26. Course #634, Standardization Principles and Practices: Fundamentals of Standardization and Elements of Globalization is a comprehensive course that provides an introduction to the development and use of industry standards, and covers conformity assessment, quality and environmental management systems standards, and the impact of standardization on global trade.

This course may serve as a "nuts and bolts" preparation for those who are learning about becoming an ANSI-accredited standards developer.

The next two courses are specifically designed to meet the needs of those participating as a member, administrator or chair of an international standards committee or U.S. Technical Advisory Group.

  • Students enrolled in Course #208, The Operating Procedures of U.S. TAGs to ISO: Strengthening the U.S. Voice in International Standardization, on Wednesday, January 28, will explore the processes and operating procedures of ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory groups to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Crucial information about accreditation, membership, voting requirements and rules for developing positions will be presented, as well as tips on how to be an effective international delegate at ISO committee meetings.
