Dr. Swift, Executive Director of Workcred to Speak at The American Legion's National Credentialing Summit

2/11/2015

Roy Swift, Ph.D., executive director of Workcred, a new American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate organization focused on workforce credentialing, will lead and moderate a panel of experts at The American Legion's National Credentialing Summit at the Mayflower hotel in Washington. Originally scheduled on February 17-18, the event will take place at a later date due to weather conditions.

Dr. Swift, a retired U.S. Army colonel who previously served as ANSI's chief workforce development officer and senior director of personnel credentialing accreditation programs, will lead a panel of credentialing experts to highlight the importance of quality in assuring that credentials have value.

During the conference, more than 200 government officials, congressional staff, and business executives will discuss best practices in transportation, healthcare, and assessing the values and outcome of credentials. Credentials-including licensure, certifications and apprenticeships-help contribute to personal and professional development and enhance promotion potential for service members.

The American Legion's executive director Verna Jones recently noted that the summit, in its third year, is expected to be a learning experience for individuals committed to the military community that may not be aware of specific steps to take to provide veterans and their families with credentials needed for civilian careers.

Workcred, a nonprofit organization established in 2014, represents an important part of the credentialing community by coordinating research into workforce credentialing needs for different industries. It also supports efforts to improve the quality, transparency, portability, and market value of credentials.
