ANSI Seeks U.S. Stakeholders to Contribute to International Standards on Ageing Societies

9/15/2017

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has circulated a proposal for a new ISO Technical Committee (TC) on Ageing Societies. In order for ANSI to participate in this activity, ANSI must form a U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) relating to ageing societies. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI invites all relevant and interested U.S. stakeholders to get involved.

Submitted by BSI, the ISO member from the United Kingdom, the proposal details that an ISO TC on Ageing Societies would focus on work that promotes lifelong support and quality of life in ageing populations. It would take a holistic approach in addressing services and products that can help manage the advancement of ageing societies, and would assess where innovation and technology require standards to support this demographic. An objective of this work is to enable people to remain independent throughout their life with a sense of value and contribution to their communities.

All interested U.S. parties are invited to review the proposal, which includes an initial work plan, relationships to existing international standardization work, and relevant stakeholders and organizations.

A related gap analysis spreadsheet from the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB) Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) is also available for review.

ANSI will soon announce a date for an October teleconference to discuss the formation of a U.S. TAG and the roles and responsbilities of the U.S. TAG and TAG Administrator. Organizations interested in becoming the U.S. TAG Administrator for this activity should contact Arpana Patel ([email protected]) by September 29, 2017.
