Registration Deadline Nears for 2008 Open Forum for Standards Developers

New York, Jun 04, 2008

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) reminds all interested parties that registration for the 2008 Open Forum for Standards Developers is required by Friday, June 13, 2008.

To be held at the Grand Hyatt Washington on June 24-25, the Open Forum will address the future of standardization, as well as opportunities for cooperation and collaboration among colleagues in the industry.

The event is the fourth in a series of ANSI-sponsored forums to foster open exchange between and among standards developing organizations (SDOs), consortia, stakeholders in the standards industry, consumers, and policy makers. Collaborative dialogue initiated at the March 2005 consortia sector caucus, and continued at the 2006 and 2007 Open Forums, will provide the foundation for this year’s discussion.

"The 2008 Open Forum will have an overall focus on open discussion and information sharing," said Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO. "This format will provide an open and neutral forum where all voices from the standardization community can be heard."

In accordance with the direction provided by participant survey responses earlier this year, the agenda focuses on the following topics:

  • Coop-etition
The pros and cons of collaboration with other standard-setting organizations
  • Emerging Technologies
How technology is being – and will be – used to support innovation in the standard-setting arena
  • Emerging Industry Sector Trends
An exploration of how to allow for and support innovation in the standard-setting arena as viewed through a series of real-life, real-time case studies
  • A Bottom Line Focus: Faster, Cheaper, Better
Current and upcoming challenges (and opportunities) influencing the business of standard-setting, best practices and techniques for improving standard development processes, keeping the playing field fair and open, minimizing redundancy, reducing time to market, etc.

Additional topics for discussion will include the intersection of standards and public policy as well as updates on Intellectual Property Rights and other legal issues impacting standard-setting organizations.
