People on the Move

New York, Dec 20, 2007

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

Herbert Bertine has recently announced his retirement from ANSI company member Alcatel-Lucent.

Mr. Bertine devoted his career to the standardization of information and communications technology (ICT) systems, and has been a tireless supporter of both the U.S. and international standardization systems.

In particular, Mr. Bertine worked to promote a stronger cooperation between the CCCITT/ITU-T and ISO/IEC JTC 1, resulting in hundreds of harmonized standards. He made many significant contributions as a member of the ANSI patent group, and his knowledge and insights of the ICT industry were instrumental in helping to support the development of the joint ISO/IEC/ITU patent policy that was approved earlier this year.

Dietmar Harting has been elected president of the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC).

Currently president of the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), he also serves as chairman of the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technology of DIN and VDE (DKE).

Mr. Harting succeeds Dr. Ulrich Spindler as CENELEC president. He will serve a three-year term of office.
