Virtual Workshops Offered for International Committee Members and Delegates

New York, Sep 13, 2005

On Thursday September 22, 2005, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will offer a complimentary virtual workshop aimed at increasing U.S. effectiveness and efficiency in international standards activities.

The two-hour web- and phone-based “virtual” workshop will be led by experienced members of the ANSI ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Team, the staff resource responsible for facilitating U.S. participation in ISO technical committees and subcommittees. ISO Team leaders will be online from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. (Eastern) on Thursday afternoon, September 22, to provide information, resources, tips and techniques for navigating through the stages of development and around some of the hurdles that arise during consensus-based standards-setting in the global arena. This will also be an opportunity to ask detailed questions about process and procedures.

As a precursor to the afternoon workshop, a half-day “virtual” offering of ANSI’s course for U.S. delegates to ISO committees will be presented from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Eastern). Course 284, From Delegate to Diplomat: Representing the United States in International Standards Activities, helps to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of U.S. participation in the international standards arena. This course provides an introduction to key aspects of the ISO/IEC Directives and breaks down the multi-stage process of developing international standards into simple, easy-to-understand steps. Specific tactics will be taught that enable U.S. delegates to present positions more effectively and gain a better understanding of international politics.

Advance registration is required for both sessions; specific questions are encouraged in advance. The cost of the morning session (ANSI Course #284) is $295 for ANSI members and $395 for non-ANSI members. The ANSI ISO Team Information Session is being offered free of charge.

For further information about these and other courses, please visit the ANSI Education and Training website or contact Caroline Holley, ANSI education and training administrator (212.642.4976; cholley@ansi.org). Interested parties can register online or by sending an e-mail to registration@ansi.org.
