Did You Know?

12/16/2016

Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation of members and partners, highlighting recent accomplishments and new resources related to standardization.

SES Webinar to Discuss Turning Text PDF-formatted Standards into Digital Data
SES - The Society for Standards Professionals, an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, will hold a webinar in January on the conversion of standards formatted as PDFs into digital data.

"A New Revolution: SDOs are Turning ‘Dead Text' PDF Standards Into Usable Digital Data" will introduce the Semantic Web for Interoperable Specs and Standards (SWISS). SWISS is a standards platform run with the cooperation of national and internationals standards developing organizations (SDOs) that turns PDF text into digital data. This data can then be integrated into the enterprise and supply chain while still being connected to its authoritative data source. With SWISS, users will be able to drag and drop content from standards, like texts, images, and graphs, into applications like MS Word and Excel.

The webinar will be held on January 18 from 1:00-2:30pm ET. Click here to learn more and to register.

ATIS Launches New Blog on ICT Industry
The Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, has launched a new blog covering the issues and topics of today's information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

The first entry in the Insights blog delves into smart cities. A second entry covers the mitigation of caller ID fraud and robocalling, and a future item will address ATIS's neutral host solution for a more economic deployment of small cells in enterprises and other community spaces.

"We chose the blog format to tell a deeper story about our work — and to get the important knowledge and insights ATIS is delivering out to the broadest possible audience," said ATIS president and CEO Susan Miller. "Along with content from our staff of technical leaders, guest authors also will be featured on the topics of urgent as well as long-term strategic importance to our industry."

AdvaMed Introduces New Digital Health Sector
AdvaMed, an ANSI member, is launching a new sector within their organization that addresses the digital health space.

With this initiative, AdvaMed will meet the needs of companies leading the way in the digital health revolution, bringing them together to explore trends and solutions, engage with policy makers, address public policy issues, and advocate for the advancement of digital health.

"From mobile devices that provide individuals personalized health care information to harnessing Big Data to find solutions for entire patient populations, digital health companies are transforming how we think about health care every day," said Scott Whitaker, AdvaMed president and CEO. "This new frontier of care promises incredible benefits for patients and efficiencies for health care systems, but only if public policies are in place that promote innovation along with high standards for patient safety, and companies understand how to navigate the regulatory and reimbursement systems still being developed. That's why AdvaMed Digital is an essential resource for digital health companies and a key stakeholder in shaping the policy environment for this emerging area of health care."
