ANSI Partners with DHS to Support National Preparedness Month

New York, Aug 29, 2006

During the month of September, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) will partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in support of "National Preparedness Month." ANSI joins hundreds of local, state, regional and national organizations in the effort to raise public awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness.

As a National Preparedness Month partner, ANSI’s Homeland Security Standards Panel (ANSI-HSSP) will address emergency preparedness at its fifth annual plenary meeting to be held September 25-26 in New York City [See related article: ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel Plenary Meeting to Address Emergency Preparedness]. The agenda for the day-and-a-half meeting includes sessions on public and private sector preparedness, standards initiatives for emergency preparedness, and credentialing for emergency responders and other on-scene personnel.

The American Society of Safety Engineers, The Boeing Company, Deere & Company, Hewlett-Packard, Pfizer, the National Fire Protection Association, and the U.S. Postal Service are among the ANSI members that have joined this nationwide effort to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, schools, and businesses.

Throughout September, these organizations are providing information, hosting events and sponsoring activities across the nation to promote emergency preparedness and to encourage action in their customers, members, employees, stakeholders and communities. A full list of partnering organizations can be found on the National Preparedness Month website.
