Did You Know? offers a quick look at the broad scope of activities underway within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Federation, highlighting the people and initiatives making waves in standardization.

ISEA Washington Roundtable to Discuss Safety in Confined Spaces
The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA), an ANSI member and accredited standards developer, will hold the first in a series of cross-sector roundtable events on August 21 in Arlington, VA. Panelists will include an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representative, the director of government employees for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the head of safety for Newport News Shipbuilding, a marine chemist, and three experts from ISEA member companies who will share their perspectives on confined space safety.

IFI Offers Free Online Technical Information
ANSI member the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI) is offering access to free technical information covering the Fastener Quality Act (FQA), metric fasteners and threading, dip-spin finishes, technology, mark registration, and other topics. IFI represents its membership to suppliers, customers, government, and the public at large to advance the competitiveness, products, and innovation of the fastener industry in the global marketplace.

Caterpillar Staff Member Honored as Engineering Librarian of the Year
James Blank, technical knowledge specialist in the engineering library at Caterpillar Inc., an ANSI member, is the recipient the of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Engineering Librarian of the Year Award. The annual award highlights the accomplishments and contributions of SLA Engineering Division members to the engineering librarian profession. IHS Inc., an ANSI member and sponsor of the award, recognized Mr. Blank during the presentation ceremony at the SLA Engineering Division luncheon and business meeting held July 16, 2012.

AOPA Approved as ANSI ASD
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has approved the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA), an organizational member of ANSI, as an ANSI accredited standards developer (ASD) under its proposed operating procedures for documenting consensus on American National Standards, effective July 17, 2012. TFI Approved as US TAG
ANSI's Executive Standards Council (ExSC) has approved The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) to serve as the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) Administrator to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 134, Fertilizers and Soil Conditioners.
