People on the Move

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has named Dr. Patrick Gallagher as the agency’s deputy director, replacing Dr. James M. Turner.

Dr. Gallagher will also act as NIST director until a candidate is chosen for the currently vacant position.

Gallagher has been director of the NIST Center for Neutron Research since 2004. Formerly NIST representative at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), he also chaired the Interagency Working Group on neutron and light source facilities under the Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Gallagher received his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Pittsburgh in 1991.


The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Maureen Davenport as senior vice president of communications.

In this position, she will oversee the association’s communications, marketing and branding with responsibility for all NAM’s campaigns, including media and member relations, new media, internal communications and publications.

Ms. Davenport formerly worked at Hill & Knowlton in Washington, DC, where she led the U.S. technology practice and was responsible for growing the consultancy’s technology portfolio. Her clients included Better Place, EADS, eBay, Gyrocam, HP, Motorola, Qualcomm and VeriSign.


The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) welcomes Danielle Gordon to the Institute as licensing attorney.

In this role, she will foster the Institute’s revenue growth and diversification working closely with the ANSI vice president and general counsel, vice president of publications, and director for business development.

Ms. Gordon previously worked in the corporate department of an international law firm, where she oversaw the drafting and negotiating of a wide range of intellectual property agreements.
