2006 IEC General Meeting moves to Berlin

New York, Aug 02, 2005

The 2006 General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) scheduled for September 24-29, 2006, has been moved from London to Berlin. Formerly to be hosted by the British Electrotechnical Committee (BEC), the group has now said that it cannot host the 2006 General Meeting in London as planned due to insufficient funding. The BEC announcement came during the IEC’s Council Board meeting in Geneva in June 2005.

IEC General Secretary Aharon Amit said he understood the issues involved and regretted that the BEC could not host the meeting. “Several National Committees immediately stepped in with an offer to host, which shows the solidarity within our community and the commitment to make things work despite occasional setbacks.”

The IEC was founded in London in 1906 and is planning a series of events and activities to celebrate the centennial. For more information about the origins of the IEC, visit
