ISO/IEC JTC 1 Launches Incubator Group on ICT and Wireless Power Transfer

4/03/2012
The International Organization for Standardization / International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) Joint Technical Committee (JTC) 1, Information Technology, has announced the creation of an Incubator Group on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) over Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) Technologies. The Group will be convened by Hyun K. Kahng, Ph.D., from Korea University in Seoul, South Korea.

Chartered for one year, the Incubator Group will research ICT issues related to wireless power transfer such as wireless communication support, interoperability with near field communication (NFC), convergence with radio-frequency identification (RFID), and security for WPT, and will report its findings to ISO/IEC JTC 1. The Group intends to:

  • establish a framework of ICT over WPT;
  • consider the communication architecture and communication entities required for new WPT technologies;
  • develop a harmonized vocabulary for WPT; and
  • prepare subsequent work items for these topics in JTC 1.

Any interested stakeholder with relevant expertise is invited to join the Incubator Group by contacting Dr. Kahng at [email protected].

The U.S. leads ISO/IEC JTC 1, with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) holding the secretariat and Karen Higginbottom of HP acting as chairperson. The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) serves as the Administrator of the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to JTC 1. INCITS is an ANSI member and accredited standards developer.
