People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation has appointed Mark Schmit, Ph.D., as its new executive director. The SHRM Foundation is a not-for-profit affiliate of SHRM, a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The foundation's mission is to advance global HR education and practice.

Dr. Schmit previously served as vice president of research for SHRM, providing strategic leadership for the organization's survey and research programs. He has more than 25 years of experience in the human resources field, and served as western regional vice president at APTMetrics before joining SHRM in 2010.

Dr. Schmit holds a doctorate degree and a master's degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Norbert College.

ANSI member and accredited standards developer the International Code Council (ICC) has announced that CEO Rick Weiland will leave the association to pursue other opportunities. Dominic Sims, ICC executive vice president and director of operations, will serve as acting CEO while the organization conducts an international search for Mr. Weiland's successor.

Mr. Weiland has been ICC's CEO since 2006, after serving as chief operating officer from 2003 to 2006. "Serving as COO and CEO of the Code Council has been an incredibly rewarding chapter in my career and I am proud of the progress we have been able to make to advance public safety over the last decade," said Mr. Weiland.

ICC is a member-focused association dedicated to helping the building safety community and construction industry provide safe and sustainable construction through the development of codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process.
