Mr. Reinaldo B. Figueiredo

Following his graduation as a Metallurgical Engineer from the University of Santos Dumont in Brazil in 1982, Mr. Figueiredo began his career as a standards specialist at INMETRO in 1982. As an INMETRO representative, Reinaldo provided critical input into the creation of the IAF, PAC, IATCA and IAAC. He also served as the first IAAC chair, and in that role, as an IAF and ILAC Regional Member representing Latin America in regional cooperation activities.

In addition, Reinaldo led INMETRO in its design and implementation of accreditation programs for product and management system certification bodies. He also supported INMETRO during the IAF Peer Evaluation Process in 1997 for the Accreditation Program for Management Systems. Reinaldo was promoted to become INMETRO’s International Affairs Director, where he worked for three years.

Since 1994, Reinaldo has participated in a variety of international conformity assessment activities (e.g., ISO/CASCO working groups). He also initiated a UNIDO program to have IAF and ILAC manage pre-peer evaluation in support of accreditation bodies in developing countries.

In 1999, Mr. Figueiredo accepted an invitation from the American National Standards Institute to work as a Manager in ANSI conformity assessment activities. In 2001, he was promoted to ANSI Program Director for product certification accreditation. His combination of business development acumen and technical knowledge helped ANSI to achieve NIST/NVCASE recognition as an Accreditation Body for Telecommunication Certification Bodies. He was also instrumental in assisting ANSI to be recognized by the PAC Peer Evaluation process as an official signatory of the PAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for product certifiers. Other international activities include his service as: (1) NACLA board member for six years; (2) member of ISO/CASCO working group responsible for the revision of the ISO/IEC Guide 65; and (3) member of IAF Peer Evaluation. In the US, Reinaldo is certified as an ANSI Lead Assessor.
