Accreditation Process

Step 5: Full Review and Vote by the ANSI ExSC

The ANSI Executive Standards Council (ExSC) reviews the full set of application documents and votes on whether to approve your application via a one-month letter ballot. The full set of documents includes:

  • Your application form
  • Your procedures, including any changes made as a result of the public review and the ANSI ExSC Subcommittee on Accreditation (SC-A)’s review
  • The SC-A’s recommendation on whether to approve your application
  • All timely comments submitted by the public and by ExSC members, along with your responses to these comments

Here's what you do

  • If any member of the ExSC (subject to conflict-of-interest procedures) offers negative comments or objections to your application or poses further questions, an attempt will be made to resolve the issue(s) with you.
  • You will have the opportunity to provide a written response.
  • If necessary, a recirculation ballot that includes the objection and your response would then be distributed to the full ExSC.

Useful tips

Depending on the quality and comprehensiveness of your application documents, the ExSC may approve accreditation within three to five months from the time ANSI receives a completed application. Some of the issues that most commonly extend the process and delay a final accreditation decision may include:

  • An applicant’s procedures do not address all of ANSI's requirements
  • An applicant’s procedures are difficult to understand
  • An applicant’s procedures do not clearly satisfy ANSI's patent policy, commercial terms and conditions policy, or antitrust policy
  • An applicant’s appeals procedures are not satisfactory
