With Standards, the Potential of Nanotechnology Keeps Growing

In light of National Nanotechnology Day on October 9, ANSI spoke with two experts with first-hand knowledge of nano-specific standards that are making a positive difference, from supporting terminology and measurement, to assessing toxicity and risk, to supporting the safe handling of nanomaterials in the workplace. Access the interview with Vladimir Murashov, Ph.D., of the U.S. National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and chair of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 229, Nanotechnologies, and Jo Anne Shatkin, Ph.D., president, Vireo Advisors and author of Nanotechnology Health and Environmental Risks, Second Edition.  

Menstrual Products: ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed New ISO Technical Committee

As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI is seeking comments on a proposal from ISO COPOLOCO for a new ISO technical committee on menstrual products. Given the complex and different classifications of menstrual products around the world—and in many instances lack of clear requirements—international standards in this field can help bridge the gap where regulations are not clear or strong enough, the proposal asserts. Feedback to ANSI is requested by November 19.

Reminder: Join the World Standards Day Paper Competition

Reply by October 29: In celebration of standards and their significant impact on the world, SES - The Society for Standards Professionals and the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day Planning Committee are co-sponsoring an annual paper competition for individuals in the U.S. standards community. The 2021 paper competition winners will be presented with their awards at the U.S. Celebration of World Standards Day, which will be held on May 19, 2022.
