July 13 America Makes & ANSI Virtual Event: Additive Manufacturing Feedstock Materials

The event program will feature presentations and panel discussions with prominent speakers from industry, government, and standards developing organizations. Topics to be discussed will include the attributes of AM feedstock materials that lend themselves to standardization and updates on standardization activity for metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites. Attendee advance registration is required.

ANSI Releases June Edition of Government Relations and Public Policy Monthly Update

Access the latest legislative and regulatory initiatives of significant relevance to the standardization community in the June edition of the ANSI Government Relations and Public Policy Monthly Update. Compiled by Mary Saunders, ANSI vice president of government relations, the publication is a special new 2021 benefit to ANSI members.

Gaps Progress Report Available: ANSI UASSC Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft Systems

ANSI recently announced the availability of a Gaps Progress Report tracking efforts of the last year by standards developing organizations and others to address the gaps identified in the Standardization Roadmap for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (version 2.0, June 2020), published by the ANSI Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative (UASSC). It lists newly published standards and new standards projects, alongside suggestions for future roadmap modifications.

NIST Publishes Definition of Critical Software in Response to Cybersecurity Executive Order

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has published a definition of "critical software" as a response to the May 2021 Presidential executive order (EO) on improving the cybersecurity of the federal government. Section 4 of the EO directs the Secretary of Commerce, through NIST, to consult with federal agencies, the private sector, academia, and other stakeholders in identifying or developing standards, tools, best practices, and other guidelines to assist software developers in enhancing software supply chain security.

Deadline Extension: NIST Seeks Comments on Publication: Reducing Risk of Bias in Artificial Intelligence

As part of its broader effort to support the development of trustworthy and responsible artificial intelligence (AI), NIST is seeking feedback by its new deadline extension on September 10. NIST will use the public feedback to inform the agenda for several collaborative virtual events in the coming months.
