In response to feedback from its recent survey to members and continuing concerns amid COVID, ANSI has announced updates to World Standards Week (WSW) 2021. To assure safe, engaging, and successful events for the U.S. standardization community, ANSI is splitting the WSW 2021 events across fall 2021 and spring 2022.
Join the ANSI virtual event, The Current and Future Landscape for Additive Manufacturing (AM) Feedstock/Precursor Materials Standardization. A draft agenda is also available, with the program featuring presentations and a panel discussion on the attributes of AM feedstock/precursor materials that lend themselves to standardization, and what is happening or needs to happen in terms of standardization of metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and the like. Advance registration is required by July 9.
Collaborative business relationship management can enhance competitiveness and performance for organizations of all types across the globe. Members of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 286, Collaborative Business Relationship Management, are active in standardization work in this field of activity. As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI encourages interested U.S. experts to participate in the U.S. TAG.
ANSI encourages members to complete the 2021 ISO Directives Updates Course, now available online. The course is required to comply with the ANSI Executive Standards Council’s requirement for training on changes to the ISO Directives, the basic procedures to follow in the development of International Standards and other publications. Training should be completed by March 1, 2022.
As artificial intelligence's (AI) applications have grown, so has society's realization that its results can be "thrown off" by biases in the data it is fed. As part of its broader effort to support the development of trustworthy and responsible AI, the National Institute of Standards and Technology is seeking feedback by August 5 on its new publication, "A Proposal for Identifying and Managing Bias in Artificial Intelligence."
ANSI is pleased to share that Mary McKiel, Ph.D., vice chair of the ANSI Board of Directors, co-authored an article in the forthcoming issue of Forensic Science Review entitled, “Advancing the Practice of Forensic Science in the United States – the Role of Forensic Standards.” The journal article is focused on the need for reliable forensic standards in the legal system.
ANSI proudly welcomed 14 members in June 2021. These organizations joined a federation that represents and serves the diverse interests of more than 270,000 companies and well over 30 million professionals.

In this issue: the International Code Council has announced two additions to its leadership team:
- Matt Sigler has been appointed PMG (Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, and Swimming Pool Codes) executive director, effective July 6.
- Shawn Strausbaugh has been named lead of the
government relations PMG team at the Code Council, serving as senior director
of PMG technical resources.
