Dust and Dust Storms: ANSI Seeks Comments on Proposed New ISO Technical Committee  

According to the proposal submitted by the Iran National Standards Organization, dust—one of the results of climate change—has created many destructive effects in the fields of good health and well-being, climate action, sustainable cities, and more. Submit feedback to ANSI by December 16, 2022.  

U.S. Department of Commerce Appoints Internet of Things Advisory Board Members

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology has appointed 16 experts to support a new Internet of Things Advisory Board. Members include professionals from ANSI members the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), Microsoft, and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), among other organizations representing academia, industry, and civil society.

EPA to Expand Recommendations of Environmental Performance Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Program recently launched the process to expand the Recommendations of Specifications, Standards and Ecolabels for Federal Purchasing. Interested sustainability standard and ecolabel organizations have until January 1, 2023, to apply to be assessed for potential inclusion. EPA will host a webinar on November 15.

Q&A with Robert S. Adler: Reflections of an Unapologetic Safety Regulator

Read an excerpted Q & A with Robert S. Adler, from an article published in The Regulatory Review. Adler, who served as the acting chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission from 2019 to 2021, reflects on misconceptions about consumers and product safety, and how the era of the “Consumer Decade” spurred a new wave of safety measures with the launch of regulatory agencies.

Making a Positive Impact with Health Informatics: Q&A with Gora Datta, Convenor of ISO TC 215 Working Group 10 on Traditional Medicine

During the early days of the pandemic, a new working group on traditional medicine launched under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 215 on health informatics. ANSI recently spoke with Gora Datta, the group’s convenor, on new goals for traditional medicine standardization.
