The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking comment on energy efficiency standards for external power supplies. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages stakeholders to submit comments by the deadline, July 6, 2020.
The DoE's RFI effort is to determine whether to amend the current energy conservation standards for External Power Supplies ("EPS"). Under the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, as amended, the DoE must review these standards at least once every six years and publish either propose new standards for EPSs or a notice of determination that the existing standards do not need to be amended.
As part of this RFI, DOE seeks comment on whether there have been sufficient technological or market changes since the most recent standards update that may justify a new rulemaking to consider standards that are more stringent.
Specifically, DOE seeks data and information that could enable the agency to determine whether DOE should propose a "no new standard" determination because a more stringent standard: would not result in a significant savings of energy; is not technologically feasible; is not economically justified; or any combination of the foregoing.
Respond to the DoE RFI. Written comments and information will be accepted on or before July 6, 2020.
