The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the U.S. member body to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), requests feedback on a proposed new ISO technical committee (TC) on security equipment for financial institutions and commercial organizations. ANSI requests stakeholder feedback by April 17, 2020.

BIS, the ISO national member body for India, submitted the proposal to ISO. As much of the global population relies on products like safes and lockers to keep valuables from theft, there is a need to develop International Standards to safeguard the valuables of consumers, the proposal asserts. The proposal notes that the standards formulated by this technical committee will focus on specification and test methods of physical security products used in banks, financial institutions, commercial organizations, and by jewelers.

Please review the proposal and submit comments to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy ([email protected]) by close of business on April 17, 2020.

Based on input received from U.S. stakeholders, a recommended ANSI position and any comments will be developed and presented at the ANSI ISO Committee (AIC) for approval before ISO's voting deadline of May 22, 2020.

ANSI has published an explanatory information document outlining the process used to develop U.S. positions in issues and activities under consideration by ISO and IEC.
