USTDA Workshop on Southern African Energy Storage Standards to be an Official Side Event of African Utility Week and PowerGen Africa

2/20/2020

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will host the Southern African Energy Storage Standards (ESS) Workshop at the Westin Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, on May 11, 2020. Organized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the USTDA-funded U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Standards Program (CESP), the workshop is an official side event of African Utility Week and Africa.

"This workshop truly represents our unique ability to connect leading American solutions with the goals of overseas partners," said USTDA acting director Thomas R. Hardy. "If deployed effectively, energy storage can help Southern African countries integrate renewable strategies into the mix of energy options and improve grid efficiency across the region."

The event is open to the public, and will feature expert presentations on standards-related issues. Discussions will focus on leading U.S. technologies for safe and efficient energy storage. Sessions will also provide an overview of policies to support an enabling environment of lithium-ion and other types of battery storage. Discussions will also emphasize options to support the expansion of safe, high-quality Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and underscore their capability to regulate frequency, provide primary and secondary reserve, and aid the management of variable renewable energy sources.

Space is limited, and all guests must register. Interested stakeholders can contact [email protected] with name, title, organization, email, and phone number. To receive a discount code for the African Utility Week delegate pass, register before April 30, 2020.
