Opportunity to Participate: U.S.-India SCCP II Virtual Workshop on Clean Energy: Advancing Growth of Photovoltaic Development in India

9/02/2020

Calling all clean energy and photovoltaic experts: The American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) U.S.-India Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (SCCP), funded by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), will host a three-part virtual workshop dedicated to promoting clean energy through advancing photovoltaic (PV) development in India.

To be held on September 22, 29, and October 6, the virtual sessions will offer U.S. and Indian stakeholders the opportunity to share expertise on photovoltaic challenges to help India meets its development goals, and provide U.S. businesses with potential investment opportunities.

Photovoltaics is the direct conversion of light into electricity at the atomic level, known as the photovoltaic effect. According to the International Energy Association, solar PV generation increased 22 percent in 2019 and represented the second-largest absolute generation growth of all renewable technologies—slightly behind wind and ahead of hydropower.

By 2022, India aims to produce 175 GW of its total energy through renewable sources, out of which 100 GW will be produced by solar energy. As of 2019, installed capacity for renewable energy accounts for 87 GW, which is 35.5% of the total installed power capacity. To bridge this gap, India needs to create and implement a robust system for safety, quality, and durability standards and specifications to facilitate adoption and efficiency of PV installations.

The workshop will consist of three two-hour sessions addressing topics important to photovoltaic standardization, performance, and the advancement of photovoltaic development in India:

Session 1: September, 22, 2020, at 7:00 a.m. (EDT)/4:30 p.m. (IST)

o Topic: Operational PV Performance Data: Maximizing PV Investments

o Registration via WebEx.

Session 2: September 29, 2020, at 7:00 a.m. (EDT)/4:30 p.m. (IST)

o Topic: PV Module & Balance of System Durability and Reliability

o Registration via WebEx.

Session 3: October 6, 2020, at 7:00 a.m. (EDT)/4:30 p.m. (IST)

o Topic: Investments in Utility and Distributed Generation PV Projects in India: Challenges and Opportunities

o Registration via WebEx.

Participants are encouraged to register for all sessions that apply to their area of interest; registration is required for each session.

ANSI is co-sponsoring the event with Underwriter Laboratories (UL), which will provide top-tier technical expertise. The workshop is being held virtually due to COVID-19 travel and meeting restrictions that postponed the in-person workshop originally scheduled for March 2020.

Background:

The U.S. - India Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (SCCP) Phase II is a comprehensive project to facilitate interaction and engagement between the public and private sectors in the United States and India. The goal is to increase cooperation in the areas of standards, conformity assessment, and technical regulations in three sectors of interest to industry: smart and sustainable cities, water and sanitation, and clean energy. More information regarding the SCCP II program can be found via ANSI's Standards Portal.
