Social Responsibility: ANSI Seeks Feedback on a Proposed Technical Committee

4/30/2020

Feedback due by June 5, 2020

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the U.S. member body to International Organization for Standardization (ISO), requests feedback on a proposed new ISO technical committee (TC) on social responsibility. ANSI requests stakeholder input by June 5, 2020.

According to the proposal, submitted by AFNOR, the French ISO national standards body, managing social responsibility involves a holistic and integrated approach for a broad range of issues, aiming at contributing to sustainable environmental, social, and economic development. Furthermore, standardization in the field of social responsibility can provide guidance and framework to all types of organizations, regardless of their size, activity or location. It allows organizations to challenge their own practices, define their corporate social responsibility, and thus devise strategies to enhance their contribution to sustainable development.

All interested U.S. parties are invited to review more details in the proposal, which features related existing work and relevant affected stakeholders.

Submit comments to Steven Cornish, ANSI senior director of international policy and strategy, at [email protected], by close of business on June 5, 2020. Based on the input received from US stakeholders, a recommended ANSI position and any comments will be developed and presented to the ANSI ISO Council (AIC) for approval before the ISO voting deadline of July 15, 2020.

ANSI has published an explanatory information document outlining the process used to develop U.S. positions on issues and activities under consideration by ISO and IEC.
