6/01/2021

USTDA AND ANSI Event to Examine Broadband and Satellite Connectivity Opportunities

In an effort to highlight the critical role of standards-driven digital infrastructure and mobile digital technologies, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) encourages relevant stakeholders to register for the upcoming U.S.-DRC Connectivity Standards and Digital Infrastructure Workshop on June 16-17, at the U.S. Embassy’s Queen Africa Conference Room in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and via Zoom. ANSI is coordinating the two-day hybrid event under the USTDA-sponsoredU.S.–Africa Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Standards Program.

The workshop (see flyer) will focus broadly on mobile and broadband connectivity and infrastructure standards in the DRC. Specifically, the workshop aims to highlight the critical role of standards-driven digital infrastructure and mobile digital technologies in fostering economic development, strengthening health and financial systems, and enabling the next generation of entrepreneurs to harness the power of e-commerce and digital trade.

USTDA intends for these discussions to build cooperative dialogue between U.S. industry and DRC public- and private-sector representatives, and to share information on advanced technologies and policy and regulatory approaches for rapidly expanding connectivity in the DRC.

About the U.S.–Africa ICT Standards Program

The U.S.–Africa ICT Standards Program is designed to share ICT standards information and international best practices with government officials and industry in Sub-Saharan Africa, and facilitate engagement with the U.S. public and private sectors.

Sponsored by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), the program will facilitate the development and implementation of ICT sector standards, testing protocols, regulatory procedures, and adherence to internationally accepted industry-led standards.

ANSI will host two additional technical workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa between summer 2021 and spring 2022, focusing on the Digital Chapters of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and e-government. ANSI will coordinate with USTDA, U.S. industry, and host country entities to prioritize and develop workshop topics.
