U.S. TAG Participants Sought for ISO Technical Committee on Pneumatic Tools and Machines

7/28/2021

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is seeking participants in the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 118 Subcommittee (SC) 3, Pneumatic tools and machines. All U.S. stakeholder organizations in relevant fields and industries are strongly encouraged to get involved.

As the U.S. member body to ISO, ANSI accredits U.S. TAGs to develop and transmit U.S. positions on ISO technical activities. ANSI member and accredited standards developer ISANTA (the International Staple Nail and Tool Association) administers the ANSI-accredited U.S. TAG to ISO TC 118, SC 3.

About ISO TC 118 SC 3

The scope of ISO TC 118 SC 3 is standardization in the field of pneumatic tools and machines, including definitions of hydraulic tools and machines, with the exception of pneumatic tool shanks and tool fitting dimensions as they fall within the scope of ISO TC 29, Small Tools. ISO TC 118 SC 3 is responsible for 44 published ISO standards.

The committee has also contributed to 36 standards that support the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 9, which aims to "build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation."

Additionally, two ISO standards are currently under the development of ISO TC 118 SC 3:

  • ISO/CD 11148-13, Hand-held non-electric power tools — Safety requirements — Part 13: Fastener driving tools
  • ISO/FDIS 28927-13.2, Hand-held portable power tools — Test methods for evaluation of vibration emission — Part 13: Fastener driving tools

Prospective U.S. TAG participants for ISO TC 118 SC 3, or those seeking more information, should contact U.S. TAG administrator Jeff Henry at [email protected] or the ANSI ISO Team at [email protected].
