The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced a number of promotions and new positions.
- Patrick Hughes has been named senior vice president of strategy, technical, and industry affairs. Hughes leads a team of technical experts as they develop and publish standards, advocate for strong building codes, and promote efficient, safe, and sustainable electrical technologies. He was previously vice president of operations and strategy and served as NEMA's senior director of government relations and strategic initiatives. In that role, he led the organization's work in electric grid, electric vehicle, energy storage, Internet of Things, and cybersecurity policy advocacy. He joined NEMA as the director of the High-Performance Buildings Council. Prior to that, Mr. Hughes was a congressional aide and worked at the United Nations Foundation, advocating for energy efficiency and grid modernization. He serves on ANSI’s Board of Directors-at-Large.
- Megan Hayes has been named vice president of technical services. She has decades of experience in developing standards and managing their implementation industry wide. Previously, Hayes served as the senior technical director of technical and industry affairs at NEMA. She is the chair emeritus of the ANSI Board of Standards Review (BSR) and the 2016 recipient of the ANSI Meritorious Service Award and the 2010 ANSI Next Generation Award. She is also the chair of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC).
- Steve Griffith has been named executive director of transportation systems. He was previously industry director, PMP, NEMA. Griffith is also an official member of the Federal Internet of Things (IoT) Advisory Board, and holds more than two decades of experience in IoT, cybersecurity, and electrified and intelligent transportation systems.
- Karen Willis has been named managing director of lighting systems. Willis has led numerous ANSI and NEMA technical committees over the course of her career, including at one time simultaneously managing five major ANSI consensus bodies. Additionally, she is proactive in domestic and international standards development as NEMA’s representative on the U.S. National Committee (USNC) Council and on multiple other committees. She is the recipient of the 2022 ANSI Meritorious Service Award.
- Jonathan Stewart has been named managing director of utility systems. Previously, Stewart was the industry director and senior industry director for the utility products and systems division. While at NEMA, he has supervised association activities of 50-member companies, all North American manufacturers of power grid equipment. He has experience in technology promotion, policy/regulatory advocacy, business intelligence, and standards development.
- Bryan Holland has been named managing director of NEMA’s technical field representatives program, which serves NEMA members by engaging in activities related to the development, adoption, and enforcement of codes and standards of importance to the electroindustry at the federal, regional, state, and local levels. Previously, Holland was the senior technical field representative of the southern region and southern field representative at NEMA.
- Mike Leibowitz has been named technical fellow, industrial systems. He became a program manager for the trade association in 1991, and has led the building wire and cable, conduit fittings, flexible cord, magnet wire, and outlet box industries in meeting their technical and product standardization objectives.
- Andrei Moldoveanu has been named technical fellow of building infrastructure. He joined NEMA over 20 years ago and has been involved with technical activities including codes, standards, and regulations involving electrical products.
- Khaled Masri has been named senior program manager of industrial systems.
- David Richmond has been named senior program manager of lighting and industrial systems.
