ANSI Members Apple, Corning Inc., and Verizon Bring Advancements in Nanotechnology and 5G to iPhone 12

10/15/2020

ANSI members Apple, Corning Inc., and Verizon are bringing advancements in nanotechnology and 5G to the iPhone 12.

The latest upgrades to the iPhone 12 include Ceramic Shield, the iPhone’s new display glass, which Apple teamed up with Corning, Inc. to develop. According to Apple’s keynote, Ceramic Shield is made by putting the glass through a high-temperature crystallization step, which grows nano ceramic crystals within the glass matrix to dramatically improve toughness and durability.

The iPhone 12 is also bringing high speed 5G coverage to more of the United States, thanks to a partnership with Verizon. Previously, high speed 5G, was only available in parts of 30 U.S. cities, but with the launch of the first iPhone with 5G capabilities, Verizon will expand 5G UWB coverage to 19 additional cities, with the goal to expand to 60 cities by the end of the year.

For more information on the iPhone 12’s new display and Verizon’s 5G initiative, watch this joint keynote.
