The International Code Council (ICC) has announced a free webinar that explains the differences between the Energy Rating Index (ERI) and the Home Energy Rating System (HERS).
“The Energy Rating Index and HERS Index: Understanding the Differences,” will be held on Thursday, December 10, from 1-2 p.m. EST.
ERI is a compliance pathway in the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and the HERS Index is a voluntary program that rates the energy efficiency of homes. In previous versions of the IECC, ERI and HERS were the same because there was no reference standard for calculating ERI codes. Since 2018, however, ANSI/RESNET/ICC 301-2014, Standard For The Calculation And Labeling Of The Energy Performance Of Low-Rise Residential Building Using An Energy Rating Index, was added to the IECC as a reference standard for calculating the ERI score, and an amendment to R406.3 changed the ventilation rate for the ERI reference home.
This webinar will clarify the differences between ERI scores and HERS scores to assist state and local code officials, builders, and HERS raters with understanding how each works. Read more about the webinar and register at no cost on ICC’s website.
