Home Innovation Research Labs Articles Explore Building Resilience for Weather Disasters

4/19/2021

Home Innovation Research Labs has published two articles on building resilience: Resilience is Key: New NGBS Options and Resilience is Key (Part 2): Q&A with James Williams, PE, CE, SE, AIA.

Climate and weather disasters have been on the rise in severity and number of events in recent years, with damages totaling at least $10+ billion in the United States annually for the sixth consecutive year. Stakeholders are increasingly interested in a building’s resiliency, where a building’s ability to withstand such events is seen as increasingly critical.

The first article details the 2020 National Green Building Standard ICC-700 (NGBS), which is the first NGBS version to include a section on building resilience. The second article features an interview with James Williams of J.M. Williams and Associates on resilience in the context of sustainability and building performance. Mr. Williams authored the resilience section of the 2020 NGBS.
