A new study conducted by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), along with industry analyst firm Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), indicates that there is a skills shortage among cybersecurity professionals that has continued on a downward, multi-year trend.
The most-often cited areas of cybersecurity skill shortages among survey respondents are cloud computing security, security analysis and investigations, and application security. Cybersecurity professionals looking to develop skills may want to focus on these areas. Respondents indicated that their employers could be doing more to address the skills shortage, including offering fair and competitive compensation, investing in cybersecurity training, promoting alignment between human resources and cybersecurity teams on business value, and supporting cooperation between business and cyber leaders on organizational dynamics.
