Underwriters Laboratories and CSA Sign MOU

12/29/2021

CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) stating their intent to collaborate in standards development activities.

With the MOU, the organizations have committed to promoting reciprocal communication, facilitating stakeholder participation in education and raising awareness, and identifying and undertaking joint initiatives and opportunities to collaborate in areas where both organizations see the social value in doing so.

“Standards are essential to public safety and confidence, as they help to improve the quality of products and services in the marketplace,” said Phil Piqueira, vice president of global standards at Underwriters Laboratories. “This memorandum of understanding between Underwriters Laboratories and CSA Group is a natural extension of our common mission and commitment to meeting the safety needs of our various stakeholders. We are confident that our combined efforts will make a significant impact in advancing our shared public safety missions.”

“CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories are driven by missions to support and improve health, safety, and economic efficiency in Canada and the U.S. through standards development and research,” said Mary Cianchetti, president of standards at CSA Group. “This memorandum provides a framework for our two organizations to collaboratively and constructively tackle topics that benefit stakeholders in our markets, and an opportunity to jointly develop relevant bi-national and harmonized standards.”
