NAM Article Offers Predictions for Megatrends in Manufacturing

1/10/2022

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has published an article naming three trends that manufacturers can expect to see unfolding in the coming years, based on a presentation at the Manufacturing Leadership Council’s “Manufacturing in 2030: The Shape of Things to Come” event.

The three umbrella trends predicted to impact manufacturers and the world at large are:

  • Durable-goods purchases will start earlier, with customer demographic broadening to include younger people. They will also extend later in life, as people are living lover and better than in decades past.
  • Purchasing-power centers will shift from the U.S. and Europe to China and India, with wealth accumulation growing everywhere in the world.
  • Emerging markets will become larger than developed ones, with a shift in manufacturer focus towards Africa and India.
